Helping Families Hold on to Precious Memories
Our memory boxes are created to offer comfort, connection, and a sense of acknowledgement in the midst of profound loss. Each box is a gentle way to honour your child’s life — a place to hold treasured items, create meaningful memories, and feel supported. Most importantly, each one says: your child was here, they mattered, and they are deeply loved and remembered.
Prepared by bereaved families for bereaved families, these boxes are filled with compassion and understanding. We believe no parent should leave the hospital with empty arms — and that every child’s story deserves to be honoured with care and dignity.
Our Memory Box Programs
Precious Wings donates memory boxes to hospitals, health services, and funeral homes across Queensland and Northern New South Wales. These boxes are kept on hand so every family can be offered one at the time of their baby or child’s death.
Each memory box provides a place to safely hold precious keepsakes such as hand and footprints or a lock of hair. Thoughtfully curated and donated in loving memory of another child gone too soon, each box includes a personal dedication on the inside lid — reminding grieving families they are not alone.
Memory boxes ensure that every family is offered every opportunity to create tangible memories and receive compassionate, consistent care during their time of loss. They offer comfort, connection, and a way to honour a child’s life in the midst of heartbreak.
While we know that no parent wants a box — they want their child — a memory box offers something to hold onto when arms are empty. It becomes a place to return to time and time again, helping parents feel close to their child and preserving their memory with love.
They are also a valuable tool for health professionals, helping guide sensitive conversations and memory-making with families during an incredibly difficult time.
We believe every child’s life deserves to be honoured with care, dignity, and compassion — and no family should walk this path unsupported.

We supply boxes to Neo-natal Intensive Care Units, Paediatric Intensive Care Units, Children's Emergency Departments and Maternity Wards. Each box is donated In Loving Memory of a beautiful child gone too soon.
“Our memory box helped us — first and foremost — to not walk out empty handed. Knowing it was donated in memory of another baby was incredibly special and supportive. Walking out of a hospital without your child is the hardest thing you can do. The memory box gave us a space for memories and information that was, and still is, amazing. It’s a precious, respectful place to hold the pieces of our child’s life. We’re so grateful for Precious Wings — for giving us a space to say our child’s name, to give back, and to honour our memories with love. Thank you. x”

Adult Memory Boxes
Precious Wings donates adult memory boxes to intensive care units, emergency departments, palliative care teams, hospices, and other health services across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

These memory boxes are offered when an adult has sadly died, and they have children or young loved ones left behind. While nothing can ease the pain of such a profound loss, the memory box provides a gentle way to help families — especially children — process what has happened, and to begin making sense of their grief.
Each box offers a dedicated space to hold keepsakes such as photos, a lock of hair, or other cherished items. It gives children and loved ones something tangible to hold onto — something they can return to in the days, months, and years ahead, especially as memories may fade over time.

The box also serves as a tool for health professionals, helping them gently initiate difficult conversations with families and children at a time when words can be hard to find.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to remember and feel connected to their parent or loved one, and that these precious memories deserve to be honoured and preserved with care and compassion.

The Dragonfly Story - a tender way to help children understand death
“We received a memory box, and I was so grateful to have something to leave the hospital with. It’s still so special to us. I plan to share it with my younger children when they’re ready, so we can keep their brother’s memory alive. Everything in the box was so thoughtful — and the information inside was incredibly helpful.”.

Legacy Boxes
Legacy is a fundamental aspect of end-of-life (EoL) care, providing comfort, purpose, and sense of continuity beyond death. For adolescents and young adults, legacy considerations often intensify following a terminal diagnosis, particularly at this nonnormatively early age. Legacy-building can play a crucial role in maintaining agency, dignity, and emotional well-being.

In December 2024, Precious Wings launched our new Legacy Memory Boxes, a special initiative co-designed with the Queensland Youth Cancer Service (QYCS) and the QYCS Youth Advisory Group (YAG) from the Queensland Children’s Hospital. These Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Legacy Boxes offer young people facing a terminal cancer diagnosis a way to create lasting memories, navigate difficult conversations, and prepare for end of life in a deeply personal way.
Each box is thoughtfully designed to help create lasting memories. It includes meaningful items such as a video book for recording messages, fingerprint and handprint kits for keepsakes or jewellery, and writing paper for letters and preserving precious handwriting. The box also contains tools to support conversations about hopes, wishes, and funeral planning, ensuring the young person’s preferences are honoured. Personalised with photos and special mementos, these memory boxes provide a tangible legacy for loved ones—created on their own terms.

Our vision is to expand this initiative, making Legacy Boxes available to young people and adults across Queensland and Northern New South Wales, regardless of their terminal diagnosis. Our long-term goal is to launch the Legacy Boxes across Australia, ensuring national consistency and the opportunity for all young people to have access to this valuable resource and support.

Miscarriage Memory Bags
In Australia, a miscarriage is defined as the loss of a baby before 20 weeks gestation. As many as 1 in 4 women will experience a miscarriage. Sadly, many people will not acknowledge when a mother has suffered a miscarriage and do not understand the significance of their loss, sometimes even dismissing or minimising the loss. However, parents have hopes and dreams for their baby from the moment they see a positive pregnancy test and love them from the beginning. We believe that acknowledgment and support is crucial regardless of what gestation the baby passed away. We supply hospital emergency departments, private obstetricians, early pregnancy units and day surgery units with memory bags for miscarriages from 5 weeks to approximately 16 weeks gestation.

How to Gift a Memory Box
Whether you're a health professional or someone close to a grieving family, gifting a memory box is a meaningful way to show care, honour a child, and help create lasting memories.

"I'm a nurse who was in a position of providing one of your memory boxes to a recently bereaved family... They are incredible and the effect your memory box had on that family (and myself) is profound! Keep up the great work and I look forward to being a strong supporter of your project"
Each box becomes a personal sanctuary of remembrance — a small but powerful step in healing.
